Why should you hire a professional translator?

Let’s start with the most essential question. Certainly, there are a lot of misconceptions about translation. The most dominant one is that fluency in one’s source and target language is sufficient in order to render any message with accuracy and in a stylistic register that suits any purpose or audience. As much as it would make our lives easier, it simply isn’t the case.

Professional translators have devoted their lives to understanding language. Their linguistic awareness and contextual knowledge is backed by education and relevant experience. Owing to their expertise, they know how to avoid common mistakes that most non-translators perpetuate when confronted with specialized language, e.g., a civil law contract which contains subject-specific terminology, or with marketing content that needs to be adapted to the culture of a target language so that a brand that’s just entered a new market can establish familiarity with their customers right away.

My professional qualifications:

In 2017, I graduated from the University of Warsaw with a master’s degree in specialized translation and interpreting.

While pursuing my degree, I worked for a Warsaw-based translation agency, where I got an opportunity to apply my skills and knowledge in practice. I have gathered considerable experience in translating specialized texts from English and German into Polish; these include legal documents (contracts, articles of association, certificates), medical documentation (medical histories, epicrises), and advertising pieces (e.g., for a local bakery chain). Finally, I learned specialized English-Polish and German-Polish translation in university classes as well.

At this point, my areas of expertise in terms of specialized translation include:

  • law,

  • business,

  • transcreation (creative translation),

  • marketing,

  • journalism (including official publications),

  • subtitling (audiovisual translation).

As of 2023, I am a member of the national translators’ and interpreters’ association in Germany (BDÜ - Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer). I hold a C2 certificate in German from Goethe-Institut (“Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom”) and a CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) certificate from Cambridge University (pass with grade A) as well.
